[Week 21] Stalybridge St. Paul’s CC 2nd XI vs Mottram CC 2nd XI

Stalybridge St. Paul's CC 2nd XIBeaten by a better team on the day.

With a win required in both remaining matches, and a low scoring draw required from the Hollingworth vs High Lane match, there was very little chance that we would clinch a promotion spot, and with a bulk of players absent to watch the Manchester derby (which City won if you weren’t aware :), it seemed doubly unlikely, so it’s not surprising that we weren’t firing on all cylinders, with only Mike Whitworth (53), Pete Coxon (23) batting decently, though I have to give credit to Jordan Elliott for his tail end performance, before being run out by Captain Brian Stone; due to a middle-order collapse, I felt we were about 20-30 runs short of a defensible target, how wrong I was…

After the break, the Mottram opening partnership of Adam Hilton (45) and Stuart Swann (87) proceeded to knock Stalybridge’s 137 off between them in under 25 overs.

On the upside, today saw the introduction of the electronic scoreboard I’ve been working on the last couple of months, and it worked brilliantly, and was well received by all, I’d like to put on record the immense help with the design and instructions of the board by Westbury on Severn CC’s Ian Nice, and the massive help by colleagues at The Stamford Group, Darren Whipp, Dewi Jones, Steve Wyatt and Neil Lewis who did the lumber and metal work.  Cheers guys!
